Explore the possibilities of the local – because people overlook what is close by

Good practices often start with what you have to hand: with where you are and what surrounds you. Solutions to problems are frequently externalised: problems are solved by outside expertise, issues addressed by professionals with little connection to local situations or concerns. This overlooks the dormant potential of any situation, its peoples, its knowledges, the collective wisdom of those who truly relate to the land, its histories and present. Don’t overlook the power of what is there and those who are already there. Leverage existing resources and systems in your community to create positive change, link them to others, emphasise the power of networks and allyship for support and wider change.
